Law Enforcement Officers and Deputies file over 90% of the Extreme Risk Protection Orders issued in the United States because they are often first on scene when a threat of gun violence escalates, they have experience handling firearms and de-escalating crises, and they are already familiar with our courts. To be effective and to adhere to ERPOs due process protections, LE needs to shift their investigative focus from enforcement to prevention. This course provides the tools to do exactly that. Participants will also receive supportive ERPO guidelines, investigative checklists, and go-by’s to utilize on their cases.
Course will cover:
Key ERPO terminology, statutory elements, and legal timelines.
Identifying the behaviors and elements that indicate an ERPO may be needed.
